Souvenirs is a memoir cookbook written by the multitalented Hubert Keller: chef, restaurateur, and Frenchman. Through personal stories and 120 recipes, the book explores his classical training and traces his development as a creative superstar chef. Keller apprentices in a Michelin three star–rated restaurant at the age of 16. He moves from his native Alsace, to southern France, and is inspired by the cuisine of the sun while working with the great French chefs of his time, Roger Vergé, Paul Bocuse, and Gaston Lenôtre. He learns to adapt to challenging new environments in South America, and the United States, and charts his own path into the newest frontiers of the restaurant business. The book is organized by seminal themes in his life; it starts with his family in France, and ends back there in the “Holiday” chapter. The myriad recipes, which have been adapted for the home cook, are intertwined with 125 of Eric Wolfinger’s luscious images of family and friends, food and cuisine, and the places and landscapes of France, Las Vegas, and San Francisco, which all make up chef Keller’s life.

Brilliant This is a brilliant book by a brilliant chef. I’m not going to go into much detail but the book is beutifully photographed, set out logically and follows wonderfully through Keller’s life with fantastic recipes to boot. Indeed this is more than just a recipe book as it effectively highlights the personal and professional growth of a great chef and his great restaurant. Highly reccomend it, and I do so in regard to the book rather than the kindle format; the latter is cheaper but you get what you pay for here.

but I am pretty sure I like it more than he does Hubert Keller taught my husband about the mother sauces on PBS and he couldn’t stop talking about it for weeks. I bought this cookbook for his birthday, but I am pretty sure I like it more than he does. I love the photos (the best part of a good cookbook) and the background history is also pretty neat. We haven’t cooked anything from it yet, but in the end I love this cookbook to peruse enough for it to have been worth the purchase.

A must for French cooking I have been to Hubert Keller’s restaurants in Las Vegas two times (Fleur and Burger Bar) and I have always been wanting to own a copy of this book. I bought this book for $7.50 + $3.99 s/h. I am glad I made this purchase.I also have watched Hubert Keller cooking on the CreateTV channel. I have recorded a few of his shows and used them to make some of the recipes he featured on CreateTV. No doubt I will be making more of Hubert’s lovely recipes.I love French cooking and my two favorite chefs are Julia Child and Hubert Keller. This book is a treasure.One word of caution. Don’t soil this book in the kitchen.
